HHL Spirit Festival 2021 I The Annual Homecoming Event
New virtual festival organized by the HHLAA
The annual Homecoming has a long-standing tradition at HHL. It has always been an occasion to reconnect, to celebrate and to reminisce about good old times on campus. In November 2021, the HHL Alumni Association (HHLAA) hosted this year’s Homecoming as a two-day HHL Spirit Festival. In the past, this event has been an opportunity for members of the HHLAA to come together in person, network and enjoy an evening back in Leipzig.

An event to connect, learn and get inspired
This year the board members decided to change the format and make it more accessible to a wider range of guests. For the first time ever, the main stage was completely virtual and open to the entire HHL community including HHL alumni, staff, faculty and current students as well as current and former exchange students.
HHL Spirit Festival broadcast live from the DIGITAL SPACE
The event included a wide-ranging lineup of keynotes, networking sessions, panel discussions and many other exciting facets, such as a virtual musical tour through the city of Leipzig. The tour consisted of a lively mixture of audio tracks from Leipzig composers as well as in-person discussions with guests in the studio. Whereas most speakers joined from home, the HHLAA board members hosted the event from the DIGITAL SPACE headquarters on campus. While the speakers were introduced and interviewed by the HHLAA board members, the viewers were able to ask questions and speak to the experts via video chat.

The panel discussion covered a range of topics. From combining entrepreneurship with parenthood to helpful advice on learning to lead yourself as well as first-hand advice from industry leaders on how to empower others. The guest speakers included industry experts, HHL faculty members, HHL alumni and leading figures from Leipzig’s musical scene.
Alumni Chapter Meetings held worldwide
The online event was extended through Alumni Chapter Meetings in Berlin, London, Zurich, Leipzig and Hannover – providing an offline space to connect and discuss the topics of the festival. The Chapter Meetings are an integral part of the HHLAA, allowing members to connect with former classmates and remain a part of the HHL Community.
A place to experience the true #hhlspirit
The HHL Spirit Festival has the goal to connect the HHL Community while also providing a platform to learn and grow. The festival character could be witnessed during the Alumni Chapter Meetings, during a time where small in-person gatherings were still possible. We look forward to seeing the Spirit Festival return next year and cannot wait to experience another weekend of #hhlspirit in Leipzig and around the world.
