Significantly higher salary increases with a Master in Management from HHL

The 2020 application process for the Master in Management (MiM) program of HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management is entering its final stage. On-the-job training, reorientation, studies with a practical relevance, new networks and, mainly, new career opportunities, are the most important reasons for choosing a Master in Management or in academic terms Master of Science (M.Sc.), from HHL. Job offers and salary increases after graduation are considered optimal indicators in assessing the investment in one’s own future when selecting a program.

Starting salaries with management degree around EUR 69.000

The job search is successful for the in-demand graduates from HHL: 95 percent of the full-time MiM students find employment within three months of graduating. The starting salary with a management degree from HHL is around EUR 69,000. A total of 61 percent — almost a third more than before —accept an offer in consulting.

One of them is Benjamin Kühl, M.Sc. graduate from HHL, who works for McKinsey & Company today. He says, “The two years at HHL were two of the best and forming times in my life and a cornerstone within my way towards joining McKinsey.”

“What stands out for me is the bond among my peers and the genuine and personal support from all members of HHL.”

Open door policy and genuine connections

Benjamin Kühl, now with McKinsey, particularly praises the network and the individual support he received during his studies.

“First and foremost, the people at HHL helped me to develop personally and professionally. What stands out for me is the bond among my peers and the genuine and personal support of all members of HHL. Especially the chance to approach professors at any time for personal advice is a unique and wonderful part of the philosophy of HHL’s faculty.”

HHL’s toolkit for consultants proves to be a very helpful asset

In his opinion, the free choice between three majors and the broad knowledge base which is developed while completing the program are ideal conditions for a career as a generalist in consulting.

“The courses at HHL also gave me important tools and a profoundly broad knowledge base, which supported me in my development as a consultant and during my first steps at McKinsey. The freedom to combine three majors probably reflects best how much the academic profile of HHL allows students to tailor their general management toolkit. In my view, this is an outstanding asset for a generalist consulting path.

Further, the course formats at HHL gave me the chance to learn how to structure problems under time pressure, handle multiple assignments at the same time and how to effectively work in teams. It may be stressful at times, but I could understand how I prefer to work in these situations and how to build resilience.”

Full-time Master in Management (M.Sc.) Program

The Master in Management Program provides a basis for future management tasks and covers a wide variety of economic topics. Building on a Bachelor’s degree in economics, HHL attaches particular importance to teaching soft skills. Courses such as Problem Solving & Communication, Negotiation or International Management Competencies represent an inherent part of the training.

The 21 to 24-month full-time program offers eight fields of specialization; Finance, Accounting, Marketing, Logistics & Supply Chain Management, Entrepreneurship, Advanced Economics and Advanced General Management. Additionally, students can choose between the three following certified career paths which were developed together with executives from the industry; Entrepreneurship, Finance & Reporting as well as Consulting.

Career opportunities

In addition to a term abroad at one of over 130 universities partnered with HHL, the curriculum of the program also encompasses an internship. Excellent business contacts as well as a professional Career Service provide top career opportunities for alumni.

Part-time version possible

Closely related to the ongoing full-time M.Sc. program, the school also offers a part-time version. Depending on the job workload, the part-time MiM can be completed in 24-30 months. The program is taught over a total of 28 to 32 course weekends (depending on the choice of electives) as well as four residential weeks on the HHL campus, thereby offering an ideal structure for professionals. Enrollment for the fall start of both programs will be possible in September.
