My Exchange Semester at Luxembourg School of Business: A Journey Beyond Borders

Why Luxembourg School of Business?

As a full-time MSc Finance student at HHL, pursuing an exchange semester at Luxembourg School of Business was an exciting opportunity to further enhance my global exposure. Coming from India, studying at HHL was already an international experience, but the idea of going abroad once again was thrilling.

When selecting a partner university, several factors played a crucial role in my decision. My keen interest in finance guided my choice, and Luxembourg stood out as a major financial hub known for its strong GDP and diverse economic landscape. Additionally, I wanted an institution that offered a personal learning experience, and LSB’s reputation for small, closely-knit cohorts made it a perfect fit. Another practical consideration was proximity—Luxembourg was not far, making travel easier while still providing a completely new experience.

An inspiring learning experience

One of the most enriching aspects of my time at LSB has been the opportunity to work and study alongside students from various nationalities. The small cohort size fosters deep connections, and the learning environment feels more like a family than just a classroom. The diversity within the program has broadened my perspectives, reinforcing that education extends beyond textbooks—it thrives on cross-cultural collaboration and shared experiences.

The faculty at LSB also played a significant role in shaping my learning experience. Professors come from prestigious companies, bringing a wealth of real-world insights into the classroom. Through challenging case studies, we don’t just learn theories—we apply them to real-world financial scenarios, making the learning process highly practical and engaging.

Cultural discoveries in Luxembourg

Although I have not travelled extensively before, studying in Luxembourg has allowed me to explore different cultures in a way I had never imagined. Despite being one of the smallest countries in the world, Luxembourg’s central location provides easy access to nearby countries like France and Belgium. This has given me the chance to experience multiple cultures within a short distance, adding another layer to my international exposure.

The warm welcome at LSB made my transition smooth. The faculty and staff go above and beyond to support students. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a personal call from LSB during my initial days, checking in to ensure I was settling in well and offering support if needed. The sense of community here is truly remarkable.

Support and career opportunities

LSB’s commitment to student support extends beyond academics. The university assisted me in securing student accommodation, which was not only more affordable than external options but also came with excellent facilities, including cleaning services. This level of care makes life as an exchange student much easier and allows me to focus on my studies and networking.

Additionally, LSB’s career support has been instrumental in connecting me with professionals from various institutions. The opportunity to attend company events like the CEO Talk has given me invaluable insights into the finance industry, further strengthening my professional aspirations.

My exchange semester at LSB has been an incredibly rewarding experience, both academically and personally. I am deeply grateful to HHL for facilitating this opportunity and for their continuous support, including the ERASMUS grant, which made this journey even more accessible. This experience has reinforced my passion for finance, broadened my global perspective, and created memories that will stay with me forever.
