Facebook Custom Audience
How it works: The online marketing tool “Custom Audiences”, which is provided by Facebook, uses technologies such as tracking pixels (“Facebook pixels”), cookies, device fingerprinting and programing interfaces (e.g. APIs and SDKs), to record information from users’ devices and information about user behavior on our website. This makes it possible to display interest-based ads (“Facebook Ads” or “Instagram Ads”) across devices to users of our website, and users of Facebook who belong to a comparable target group, when they visit the social networks Facebook and Instagram. The user’s browser uses Facebook pixels – small graphics that are also embedded on our website, are automatically loaded when you visit our website, and enable tracking of user behavior – to automatically establish a direct connection with the Facebook server. Embedding Facebook pixels allows Facebook to process the information generated by cookies about the use of our website by users’ devices – in particular the IP address, browser and device information, the website visited before, the Facebook ID, and the date and time of the server request, for the purpose of serving personalized ads. The ads are served on the social networks Facebook and Instagram. The ads served are based on the previous analysis of how the user behaves on our website – e.g. number of page visits; unique visit; recurring visit; entry and exit pages; time spent on the website; click, swipe and scroll activities; bounce rate – on how the user interacts with our website (e.g. whether they subscribed to a newsletter or made a donation), as well as on interactions on our online presences on the social networks Facebook and Instagram. For these purposes, it is also possible to determine whether different devices belong to you or to your household. If a user is registered with a Facebook service, Facebook can associate the visit with the user’s account and the personal data stored there, and create and evaluate user profiles across applications.
Transfer to a third country: When consenting to the use of Facebook Custom Audiences, this also includes consenting to a possible transfer of data to the US. The European Court of Justice classifies the US as a country without an adequate level of data protection and without appropriate safeguards according to EU standards. In particular, there is a risk that your personal data may be processed by US authorities for monitoring and surveillance purposes, possibly without the possibility of a legal remedy to prevent access to the data or to establish the illegality of the access. In addition, there can be no assurance that your rights as a data subject can be fully implemented and that supervisory authorities in the US will take appropriate remedial action. Using Facebook Custom Audiences involves such data transfers to third countries. If you do not wish to consent to your data being transferred to a third country, then you must disable Facebook Custom Audiences.
Facebook Analytics
How it works: The analytics service “Facebook Analytics”, which is provided by Facebook, uses technologies such as tracking pixels (Facebook pixels), cookies, device fingerprinting and programing interfaces (e.g. APIs and SDKs) to process information from users’ devices. The data processing is carried out for the purpose of analyzing how people use our websites, e.g. number of page visits; number of unique visitors; number of recurring visitors; entry and exit pages; time spent on the website; click, swipe and scroll activities; bounce rate, as well as our internet presences, e.g. on the social networks Facebook and Instagram, how users interact with our website and our online presences (events), e.g., whether they subscribed to a newsletter or made a donation, as well as measuring the reach of our ads and content. For this purpose, it is also possible to determine whether different devices belong to you or to your household.
