The market of private equity (PE) is thriving. In 2020, buyouts initiated by PE funds accounted for roughly 20 per cent of global M&A transactions – characterizing a steep rise over the last decade.

This session is part of a broader lecture series surrounding the topic of private equity (PE). Together with his guests Martin Schneider (Andersch) und Michael Brigl (BCG), Prof. Bernhard Schwetzler (Chairholder, HHL Chair of Financial Management) discusses Private Equity in crisis times.

The following topics will be highlighted and exploratively analyzed in the session:

  • How resilient are PE portfolio firms?
  • What was the impact of the financial crisis on portfolio firms?
  • Did Private Equity cause the financial crisis?
  • Covid19 and private equity

The talk will be held in English.

About the Lecture Series
The lecture series aims to give an introduction into private equity and its role in financing entrepreneurial ventures. It covers a wide array of PE related topics as e.g. the macroeconomic effects, the business model and the performance of private equity investments on firm and on fund level. The lecture series will also allow participants to judge arguments in favor and/or against the negative public perception of private equity. The business model of private equity and its economic consequences will also be explained and discussed.
