What is the Mittelstandsstipendium for Leipzig?

HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management and the City of Leipzig are strengthening the regional economy by offering ten scholarships for the Part-time MBA program. This initiative provides employees of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Leipzig with the opportunity to pursue further education alongside their jobs, enhance their leadership skills, and directly apply newly acquired knowledge within their companies.

The scholarship for the Part-time MBA significantly reduces tuition costs and enables participants to receive a top-tier management education. A total of five full scholarships (100%) and five partial scholarships (25%) are available—an exceptional opportunity to advance your career at a reduced cost!

Who can apply?

The scholarship* is aimed at employees of Leipzig-based SMEs who:

  • have at least three years of professional experience
  • hold an academic degree (all fields of study are eligible)
  • submit a letter of recommendation from their employer.

*Eligible applicants must apply for HHL’s Part-time MBA and be employed by a Leipzig-based company with an annual revenue of EUR 1.5 to 8.0 million. Companies in the financial sector and public administration are excluded.

        HHL Mittelstandsstipendium for Leipzig: Overview

        Scholarship Amount

        We are offering five full scholarships and five partial scholarships covering 25% on a “first come, first served” basis.

          Application Process

          • Scholarships are awarded on a rolling basis. Early application increases the chances of receiving financial support.
          • Deadline for Scholarship Applications: June 30
          • We will only consider scholarship applications from candidates who have submitted a complete application for the program.
          • The scholarship application can be submitted either through our application portal or via email to Stephanie Pleiss-Dietrich.
          • The selection committee will evaluate the scholarship application once the results of the GMAT, GRE, or HHL Entry Test are available.

            Requirements

            • Complete program application
            • Successful completion of the GMAT, GRE, or HHL Entry Test
            • Excellent interview with an HHL professor
            • Scholarship application documents (see scholarship task below)
            • For employees of companies based in Leipzig with a revenue between 1.5 and 8.0 million euros. Excluded are companies in the financial sector and public administration.

              Individual Design of the Scholarship Application

              To gain a comprehensive impression of the applicants, the following questions offer guidance on topics of particular interest for the HHL Mittelstandsstipendium for Leipzig. These are intended to inspire the application, which can be submitted in a format that best suits the applicant.

              Possible questions for content orientation:

              • A concise self-description in one sentence (max. 20 words).
              • A personal vision for the future: Where do you see yourself in five years, and how does the scholarship play a role in that journey?
              • Alternatives for financing your studies at HHL if you are not selected for the scholarship.
              • The importance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for the economic development of the new federal states, especially in the Leipzig region.
              • Key challenges for leaders in today’s business world – particularly with regard to SMEs. What solutions can be identified?

              Flexibility in Application Format

              • The application can be submitted in written form (e.g., as an essay) or in a visual format (e.g., as a presentation).
              • There is no preferred presentation style – what matters is that the chosen format clearly conveys the core message.

              Free Structure of the Length

              There is no minimum or maximum length. Applicants are invited to choose the length that best expresses their motivation and personal potential.

              • The file should not exceed 5 MB in size.
